FISHING:

Our fishermen are all local fishermen experienced in the famed fishing waters off Langara Island, Naden Harbour and Waih Point. Please refer to our related fishing page which displays a map of all fishing hot spots as well as the boating-distance between destinations.

Fishing boats are generally either deep hull fiberglass, say 22 feet with a 200 hp engine, OR former commercial fishing seiners that have been converted for recreational fishing.

The daily rates for a guided fishing trip on a fiberglass boat are approximately $1,000 (and a base of $800) per day per party of four with a full day of fishing and all gear provided excluding fishing licenses and specie tags. An ex-seiner can be chartered for $125/hour/party of 4 with a 4-hour minimum. Some consider the seiner boat to be a safer vessel, better suited for larger groups but slower in traveling time to a particular fishing destination.

The fishing off Masset is the best in the world for halibut, king salmon (or Chinook), and coho (or silvers) and the season typically runs from May 1 through September 30.

Each fishing season varies and this year is expected to be a good year.

Last year was an exceptional year with a run of Coho/Silvers that lasted about 4 weeks from mid July through mid August. Larger Kings/Chinooks were found in abundance from May through mid July. Halibut fishing is good year round but closed in January. The fishing season typically ends about September 30, however, the world renowned fishing lodges will close their season off in mid September.
